In the midst of all the hype about the AWD Hellcat and next generation Challenger/Charger, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has some interesting info about the future of the Dodge Journey.

Journey: Plans to move the Journey onto a shared platform with the Chrysler 200 have been scrapped. Production of the current Journey has been extended to 2018, when it will switch to the Giorgio platform , with production moving from Mexico to Italy.

The Giorgio platform underpins the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and will be the foundation of the new Challenger and Charger. That means the Journey is transforming from a lifted Avenger wagon into a sport sedan-based crossover akin to the Jaguar F-Pace and last generation BMW X1.

It should make for one mean mall crawler.

This is probably the first time ever that thee has been interesting info about the Dodge Journey. So MOPAR with the traditional MOPAR advantages negated by Fiat underpinnings? What could go wrong?

All this platform sharing makes me think the Giulia is going to be very compromised.

As if being both a Fiat and a Chrysler didn’t already give that impression?

The XE shares a platform with the F-Pace, the upcoming XF, and an upcoming Range Rover, so I don’t think it necessarily means the Giulia is going to be overly compromised.

On the other hand, the Dart wasn’t exactly a resounding success.

If Chris Harris is to be believed, its a good drive.

Granted he tested the sportiest version.

Not really. The current Journey has stuck around so long because they couldn’t stop selling out of them in Europe. they weren’t huge in the US, but for some reason, EU sales kept them around a lot longer than expected.

Same thing with the Jeep Patriot/Compass, except reversed - Europe tolerated it, but US sales were so high, they’ve had to delay its replacement for about 4 years.

None of those cars are designed to be sold for $21,000 and rental fleets.

That’s a very good point.

Which is a shame, the Dart and 200 were very attractive if not overall average cars in their fields. I would have bought a 200 over a Lexus ES. Although that's because I know I can walk out of a dealer with a reasonably loaded 200 for under 23k

The Dart looks good and sounds great with the Multi-Air Turbo. I’m not so crazy about the 200. But I would only drive an FCA product if paid to do so and it was under warranty.

The Dart needed an SRT-4 and FCA danced around it for too long.

This makes no business sense to me. Is the base version going to be rwd? Marchionne keeps making last minute changes resulting in half baked cars. *Cough cough Giulia*

This is going to ruin the price point, hurt the efficiency of the 2wd model, and shorten development time.
